Nestled in the wooded heart of the Inserrata agricultural estate, just steps from the medieval town of San Miniato, the Palazzina di Caccia was built in the late 19th century as a hunting lodge and private countryside retreat for Italian Prime Minister Sidney Sonnino. Enclosed within what was then a vast rural estate “in serrata” and surrounded by forests, vineyards, olive groves and orchards, the palazzina served as a place of solitude and contemplation. Here, Sonnino would withdraw from public life, seeking silence and balance in the Tuscan countryside, while his family resided at the more formal Villa Sonnino in nearby Cigoli.
